Scripture of the Day - July 30, 2012

1 Corinthians 2:14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

This scripture is a clue as to why so many people are deceived into believing that much of God`s word is `not for today`.  They are thinking with their natural mind. They are following popular opinion. They are blindly  following tradition, not asking where these teachings that are contrary to the Bible came from. So, when the Bible is presented to them they reject it for tradition`s sake. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to sprinkle babies as baptism but millions still do it, nowhere is it written to say the sinners prayer for salvation but millions still do it, nowhere does it say to glorify Mary the mother of Jesus, but millions still do it, and I could go on for pages with teachings that are contrary to the Bible that millions still follow. These people are not spiritually discerned so they listen to tradition and popular opinion. The actual Word of God is foolish to them, it`s not for today. Really?  Well, I have news for you...1Corinthians  1:25  ... the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. So Col 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Scripture of the Day - July 29, 2012

Psalm 119:160  Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

I was wondering how many people on this mailing list read the Word of the Day and brush it off, thinking that`s nice but it`s just her opinion. Yes, I am expounding on each scripture but Scripture is Scripture and it will not change.  Psalm 119:89   For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. God is not going to bow to public opinion. Malachi 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not...
Not only that, but ALL of God`s word is important and should be followed. 2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
So when Jesus says "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God"; it`s not someone`s opinion, it`s the Word of God and you would be wise to heed it.
If you are unsure of how to be born again just look at what the apostles did...they were very sure! Acts 2:38  ...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (not just for that day)
Let the Word of God lead you, not tradition nor public opinion. Psalm 119:133  Order my steps in thy word...Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Scripture of the Day - July 28, 2012

Revelation 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write...
9  I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich)...
10  Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer... be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

God is not impressed by size. He is not impressed by our oratory skills. He is not impressed with our ability to draw deep truths from His word and expound on them to the masses (who sit in awe). The little church in Smyrna suffered greatly because it stood for the truth of God's word. They didn't water it down to suit popular opinion and gain the crowds thus they were persecuted  by those who hated God's message.
Perhaps they wondered...but no, this was the messaged that was once delivered to the saints...they had to stick to it! They might have seemed rather pathetic to the world around them but Jesus told them they were rich and that He will give them a crown of life if they remained faithful.
To pastors of small churches, don't let the mega churches of today intimidate you. Don't let them make you feel small. Jesus sees right through to the heart of man and just because you call yourself a Christian doesn't mean you are actually following Christ.
9b ... and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Scripture of the Day - July 27, 2012

Revelation 3:1 I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Jesus is telling the church at Sardis that he knows their track record and where they stand now. The "members" of the Sardis church had lost what the founders once had. With false teachers constantly bombarding the church with thoughts of "that's not for today" the church had slipped into a very dangerous place. The people were not truly born again and Jesus warned them to wake up and strengthen what little remains. They had a reputation for being alive but in reality they were dead because what they were doing was incomplete! They had to get back to basics and do what the Apostles did... If not, they were going to be in for a rude awakening!!
2  Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
3  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Folks, we have to hold fast to the doctrine that was once delivered to the saints. A watered down salvation will not get you into heaven.

Scripture of the Day - July 26, 2012

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Et tu Brute? Perhaps the most famous words uttered to relate the ultimate betrayal of a close friend were in Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar.
Now personalize that phrase and have it come from Jesus. Even you Mary?
How can we sin against our Lord who has done so much for us? Sin alone is bad enough but to have it come from those who've been given the grace of God, who've been washed clean by the blood of Jesus, who've been baptized into His death is a far heavier blow. How can we betray our Lord who has done so much for us and has given us so many promises? How can we betray our Lord who has adopted us and made us a part of His family?
Oh let it pierce the soul to imagine Jesus, with tears in His eyes and sadness in His voice, saying "even you.......?"

Jeremiah 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you...

God will never turn His back on His people. He is devoted to His people and always has His hand out for them. When they stray from Him and want to return His arms are always open.
For those who have strayed away you must understand that your God loves you and is always willing to take you back, and that you have a God who is faithful beyond human understanding.

Scripture of the Day - July 24, 2012

Psalm 56:9  When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

My god is for me...THIS I KNOW!  He was for me before the foundations of this world were laid. He was for me when He formed me in my mothers womb.  He was for me when He hung on the cross, the ultimate display of love and power. So when the enemy comes against me I have a God who is all powerful and is on my side! I have the victory because God, who is for me, has the victory.

Scripture of the Day - July 23, 2012

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

In any relationship, if it is to be successful, each person must put the other first. This also applies to our relationship with God. If we seek after Him first, He will take care of all of our needs. If we insist on worrying and taking care of our worldly needs FIRST God will allow us to do just that. The problem we run into is that we rarely find time for Him because we are so busy trying to satisfy our carnal needs...not understanding that the more we get, the more we want...thus, we end up on a never ending quest that will always be out of reach.
If we put our focus on God and seek His righteousness first, we won't have to worry about our carnal needs, we will find the satisfaction that this world could never give.

Scripture of the Day - July 22, 2012

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

God is not demanding when He expects that you choose between Him and this world. He is quite reasonable. The bottom line is that you can't love Him if you love the ways of this world. You may claim to but your actions show what you really think.
Let's put it in perspective...you are married and your husband (or wife) thinks it's fine to date others. Oh he says he loves you but he wants other women as well. Would you think he really loves you? Would you stay with him and tolerate the other women? Of course not...and this is quite reasonable.
Love is a choice. Choose this day whom you love. Choose this day whom you will serve.

Scripture of the Day - July 21, 2012

Matthew 6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Our private prayer life is vital to our relationship with God. It is in this secret place that He will speak to our hearts. Be sure to listen. Never let the fires of prayer go out for they are the barometer of your walk with God. Do you struggle in your faith? Are you devoted to Him or do you merely know of Him? Enter into the secret place and draw near to Him. Let your heart burn deeply for Him. His burns deeply for you.

Scripture of the Day - July 20, 2012

Romans 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

I just read about a lavish wedding ceremony in India that is apparently a ritual to bring rain to the drought ridden land. Thousands were in attendance and the ceremony was conducted by five Hindu priests. What makes this wedding stand out is the fact that the bride and groom were two frogs...the groom named Punarvasu and his bride named Pushala have been joined in matrimony in the hopes that this will bring rain. They believe that a lavish wedding ceremony between two frogs will bring rain. Oh how their foolish hearts are darkened and how vain they are in their imaginations.
Folks, NEVER be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God!

Scripture of the Day - July 19, 2012

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith!

There is a saying, "if you want to be disappointed look to yourself, if you want to be discouraged look to others, if you want to be encouraged look to Jesus." It's not your hold on Him that saves you rather it's His hold on you. Don't depend on your own strength, don't rely on your own understanding, instead look to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. Don't focus on your failures, don't focus on your past sins, rather keep your eyes focused on the one who saved you. Figure skaters, when they are doing their twirls, keep their eyes focused on one point which they keep coming back to, turn after turn, faster and faster, they never lose balance because their eyes are focused. Keep your eyes focused on Jesus and you will never lose balance.
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand!

Scripture of the Day - July 18, 2012

2 Corinthians 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ...

God Almighty, creator and maker of all, was IN CHRIST... so you see, Jesus is not a second person in a triune Godhead, rather He is the physical manifestation of God Almighty who had come to reconcile the world unto HIMSELF... but I digress...  And WE ARE HIS AMBASSADORS!  We are citizens of heaven...yes heaven is our home... but we are here to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to this unsaved world. We are a chosen people, a holy nation, a special possession of God, and we should walk as such. Never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Never be ashamed of your calling. We ought always to walk with a humble dignity according to the honor bestowed upon us by the King of Kings. OH GLORY!

Scripture of the Day - July 17, 2012

Philippians 1: 29  For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake...

Don't think you are suffering FOR Christ's sake if you've made bad decisions that have gotten you in hot water. Many Christians suffer, not because of Christ but because of self will and poor judgement. They suffer because they ignore the voice of God whispering in their ear. They suffer because of lean prayers, lean reading of the Word, lean service to God and this leanness has eaten up the blessings of God.
Genesis 41:20  And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine...
If you don't want famine in your soul, if you don't want leanness to take over your life, you must feed it with a fresh supply from heavens bounty. Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Scripture of the Day - July 16, 2012

Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write ...
8  I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Oh what a strong message to NOT change the Word of God! The church in Philadelphia had some strength still and God set before them an open door because they kept His Word and didn't deny His name. Many people today have changed the Word of God to suit their way of thinking. They aren't comfortable using His precious name so they use His titles. They don't like the idea of repenting and going down in the waters of baptism so they sprinkle their babies and say that is good enough. They have lost their strength.
The church ought to be the pillar and ground of truth, after all, it is the body of Christ and He is the head! We must keep His Word for not only is Jesus the foundation of the church, He is the chief cornerstone! If we chisel at the foundation and trim down the cornerstone we are left with no strength and we will fall. If you want to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might then don't deny His name and don't change His Word.

Scripture of the Day - July 15, 2012

Exodus 20:25  And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

God did not want the people to carve the stone. He didn't want any signs of human skill lest the people boast of their own mighty works. Gods ways are perfect and He does not need our intervention. This is a principle that is carried through right to the cross of redemption and our instruction of what to do to be saved. We don't have to perfect the Saviour's work. We don't have to alter God's plan of salvation for humanity but oh the proud heart of man thinks it must. The doctrines in the Bible are unhewn stones that we ought not lift a tool upon and pollute! How dare we think we should change what God has set, but we do. We break out our chisel and start chipping and trimming the gospel to suit our way of thinking... you don't have to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus... sprinkle water on your babies and use His titles instead. The Holy Spirit was for back then not now, don't worry about that, just believe, that's enough, just say the sinners prayer and you're saved. And on and on we chisel and trim till what we have no more resembles the gospel of Jesus Christ, instead it has become the gospel of man...no responsibility, no accountability, no obedience, no submission ...no heaven!
Would you choose to drink polluted water over pure water? Of course not! Then don't choose a polluted word over the pure Word.

Scripture of the Day - July 14, 2012

John 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Now-a-days, the term 'born again' is used rather loosely, so loosely in fact, that it has lost it's meaning for most of the evangelical world. Born of the water means going down in the waters of baptism in the name of Jesus. Born of the Spirit means being filled with God's Holy Spirit. And you do neither of these until you have repented of your sins. Read the book of Acts to see what they did. They understood the importance of obeying Jesus... but it seems that today we 'know better'.
There are many so called Christians who are not going to enter heaven because they refuse to obey Jesus. They brush aside repentance, baptism and being filled with the Holy Spirit, and promote "saying the sinners prayer" as being born again. What error! What a false hope they are sending out. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and the Bible, GOD'S word, makes it very clear that if ye live after the flesh ye shall die. Romans 8:11
Do you want eternal life? Then follow Jesus. He is the door to heaven. No man is going to sneak in another way.

Scripture of the Day - July 13, 2012

Genesis 1:5  And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Notice that God called both evening and morning DAY...(that which is light), not NIGHT...(that which is dark). God is light and in Him is no darkness at all, 1 John 1:5 so when we, who are in the darkness of sin, become born again into His marvelous light, he sees us through that light. We are no more called sinner, rather saint. It doesn't mean we are now perfect, au contraire, we still have darkness in us that we have to fight against every day but God declares us righteous and sees us that way!

Scripture of the Day - July 12, 2012

James 2:17  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James is telling the church that declaring faith in not enough, knowing doctrine is not enough. knowing who God is, is not enough. Good grief, even the devils know who God is and look where they're headed! James 2:19  Let's not hang our hat on our understanding of doctrine, let's not be vain in our imaginations, rather, let's understand that we must prove our faith by our actions. James 2:20 We prove our faith by loving others. Love is the ultimate display of faith. Love is the 'works of faith'. Remember what Paul said...( I paraphrase) if I don't have love then nothing I do, no matter how sacrificial it is, profits me.

Scripture of the Day - July 11, 2012

Revelation 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Because you have left your first love. Sound Biblical doctrine is vital to your walk with God but whatever you do you must do it with the love of Christ. The Ephesian church had become militant regarding doctrine and lifestyle. They had focused so much on this, that their love for Jesus has waxed cold. They knew the Word, they could weed out the false teachers and they had no tolerance for evil but their love had waned.
Paul wrote it so beautifully in his letter to the Corinthians.  1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. 3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
If we want to profit, if we want success, whatever we do must be done with love.

Scripture of the Day - July 10, 2012

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jesus expects us to prove our love by obeying Him. You prove what you say by your actions. You can't claim to love God and not obey Him. That would be a false claim and you would  be a hypocrite.  If you truly love Jesus then KEEP His words... that means guard them, attend carefully to them, follow them diligently, don't let anyone sway you from obeying Him.
John 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words...

Scripture of the Day - July 9, 2012

Mark 12:29  And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30  And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Folks, we have to get the love issue settled in our hearts. The first of the Ten Commandments is to LOVE God with ALL your heart, soul, mind and strength and the second is to LOVE your neighbour as yourself. Who is my neighbour you may ask? Jesus makes that very clear in the parable of the good Samaritan...anyone and everyone. We are to show love to everyone. If you love God you will love your neighbour. If you love God and your neighbour you will show it. Nothing is greater than showing love, and you show love by obeying God.

Scripture of the Day - July 8, 2012

Matthew 7:22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord...
23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me...

If Jesus is not Lord of everything He is not Lord at all. You can't claim Him to be your Lord if you are not going to obey Him. Jesus said if you love me obey my commandments. It's easy to say "I love you" but you prove your love, or lack of it, by your actions. If you refuse to obey Him, even when you claim to love him, on that day of judgement He will say to you depart from me, I never knew you. God doesn't play games and we shouldn't either.

Scripture of the Day - July 7, 2012

Jude 1:23  And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire...

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sometimes when you see someone spiral out of control you have to take action. You have to pull them out of the fire. Like a drowning man the person may flounder and strike out at you but you must stay strong and hold tight. Never let go and never give up.

Scripture of the Day - July 6, 2012

James 1:27  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

What are you doing when you visit the fatherless and widows? You are showing love. God is love and He expects us to love. We love not only in word but in deed. It's no good to just pray for someone and not help them if you are able. We have to prove our love with actions.
And talking about action, we are to keep free from the vices of this world. These are conscious decisions we make every day. Let's chose wisely.

Scripture of the Day - July 5, 2012

James 1:26  If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

David cried out, "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD"...Psalm 19:14.
He knew how important it was to be careful of his words and therefore careful of his thoughts. We can speak life or death into a situation...that's how powerful our words are. Proverbs 18:21
Our outward appearance is important but it cannot hide from God what is on the inside, and that's what God judges. I read a little saying..."If you want to know where your heart is, look where your mind goes when it wanders." hmmmm...something to think about:)

Scripture of the Day - July 4, 2012

Psalm 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Sometimes we are too busy fretting over the situation to understand that the cause of our distress comes from within. We do all sorts of things to alleviate the stress, even to the point of moving to another city in an attempt to escape the pressure. But you will never escape no matter how far you run. The pressure may be lifted for a while but unless you clean house and renew your spirit it will be the same old thing over again.
You will not have control of all the circumstances in your life but you sure do have control of your attitude. And that makes all the difference in the world.

Scripture of the Day - July 3, 2012

John 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

We usually only think of worship as raising our hands and singing but worship goes deeper than that. Worship is trusting God. Worship is humbling yourself and obeying God. Abraham and Isaac went to 'worship' God up on the mountain, and we all know they weren't going up there to sing and clap hands. I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. Genesis 22:5 Abraham trusted God and proved his trust by following through with the command to sacrifice Issac. Some how, some way, he knew that God would even raise Issac from the dead if it came to that. Hebrews 11:19 But it didn't...as soon as Abraham reached for that knife the angel of the Lord stopped him and said 'now I know that you fear God' Genesis 22:12. You see, Abraham worshiped God in spirit and in truth. His wasn't just lip service. He proved his trust. He proved his obedience and he was blessed greatly for it.

Scripture of the Day - July 2, 2012

1 Thessalonians 5:16  Rejoice evermore.

Jesus didn't rejoice when He was on the earth. He wasn't a jovial character going from town to town jesting and slapping shoulders. He was here to do a very serious job. He came to die that we might live. He wept over all those who had rejected Him...not for Himself but for their sakes he wept. They were damning their souls by rejecting Him.
Oh but for all those who accept Him....His greeting is ALL HAIL! (Matthew 28:9)  All Hail means...1) to rejoice, be glad 2) to rejoice exceedingly 3) to be well, thrive. We can rejoice, we can be well and thrive because Jesus has gotten us the victory over sin and death...and what a reason to rejoice!
Whooooweeeee! We have something that the world can't give and the world can't take away!

Scripture of the Day - July 1, 2012

Psalm 28:1 A Psalm of David. Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock: be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
2  Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

Crying is the ultimate expression of sorrow. When you've done all you can and all seems hopeless you often cry. But cry unto the Lord. Only the Lord can help. Crying to all your friends won't help, except maybe to lose friends... for who wants to listen to a constant complainer?
Ah but God doesn't answer my prayers you say. Then keep praying! Don't settle for no answer. If your supplication is genuine you will continue until you have an answer. Those who give up easily don't really want an answer, they just want to complain.
There are scriptural examples of those who prayed against all opposition and prayed continuously till they received their answer...those examples are there for us...follow them.
